WINNIPEG, MB – January 11, 2021 – With COVID-19 cases surging across the country, and with the health and safety of audiences, artists, members, delegates, speakers, volunteers, fans, staff, and all of their families as top priority, BreakOut West has made the important decision to move the 2022 events, set to take place in Winnipeg next month, to an online format. The conference will take place virtually from February 2-6, as previously scheduled, with details on the festival component to come soon.

“It pains me that we are making a move to online yet again,” says BreakOut West Executive Director, Robyn Stewart.  “Artists, industry and our team have worked so hard planning a program that will welcome back live music, dive into the future of our industry structure and celebrate western Canadian talent. However, as we continue to put the safety of our music community first, we have made the decision that the safe way to come together at this time is to do so online.

A special thank you to the Winnipeg Host City partners; Province of Manitoba, Tourism Winnipeg and the City of Winnipeg, and to local premier sponsor, Downtown Biz, and the Winnipeg Host Committee. You have been an incredible support to us in adjusting dates, rolling with the COVID punches and preparing to celebrate our great city. We are excited to share digitally the reasons to love Winnipeg and the incredible industry and artists. We will be back soon.”

Attendees can register for BreakOut West Online here. Anyone who had previously registered for the in-person events will be contacted to adjust their registration to online, or obtain a refund.

Along with the online programming for the conference and festival, the 2021 Heritage Award, Kevin Walters Industry Builder Award, and Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees will be formally presented at a special virtual event in February.

BreakOut West is incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of its partners throughout these difficult and unprecedented years, and looks forward to celebrating together again in Calgary, this fall, for BOW’s 20th anniversary.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks for more details on how to join in the talent development and music discovery at BreakOut West 2022 Online.
