DAN TALEVSKI TO RELEASE DEBUT EP HIGH TIMES ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27

LISTEN TO THE NEW TRACK PAPERS FEAT. ALEESIA

Toronto, ON – October 11, 2017 – Toronto pop singer-songwriter, Dan Talevski, will release his new EP, High Times, on Friday, October 27, via Entertainment One Music. The EP is a mix of Dan’s recent hits and new material, including his latest track, Papers, featuring frequent collaborator, Aleesia. See below for a complete tracklist and pre-order High Times here.

“Aleesia and I have been friends for over a decade now. We wrote a song called Papers last year, intended for me, but as I heard her sing the second verse, I knew we had a duet in the making,” Dan says of the collaboration. “The track came together very effortlessly and once production was added, it was the perfect recipe for a breezy, hypnotic-pop cut on my new EP.”

High Times will include another single, Blackout, and Dan’s previously released the track, Birthday Suit, which ranked at #8 on Entertainment Weekly’s Must List, calling it a “sexy summer club jam.” You can stream and purchase Birthday Suit  here. The video for the track, directed by Emma Higgins, depicts a wild birthday party, and premiered on ET Canada on July 26th. Inspired by a personal experience, Dan wanted to push boundaries with this track to show his fans who he is with “no guard up.”

Over the past 10 years, Dan has written and recorded hundreds of songs, working towards a first full length release.

“I’ve dreamt and anticipated my album release day my entire life. It hasn’t been easy. Continuously over the last decade, I’ve had set backs, road blocks, and crushed dreams. Sounds like your typical, cliché chase for stardom, but it feels different when you're living it,” he says of the process. “I titled it High Times because of obvious reasons *insert marijuana joke* but it's also symbolic of a time in my life when I felt bigger than the world; living my dreams; addicted to the music industry and pop culture. It’s like no other drug.”

The High Times album cover depicts a semi-nude Dan Talevski as a representation of how he feels about life right now. “I’m tired of portraying the perfectly polished pop artist. This EP is not about that. Strip back the big hair, the thought-out wardrobe, the "sexy smirk" — I want you to focus on my vocals, lyrics, melodies, and production. I hope these seven songs take you on a euphoric journey out of your reality and into mine. Puff, puff, pass…”

Following the success of his previous singles, Rocket, Knock Me Off My Feet and 2015’s Guilty As Sin, and an extensive Fall 2016 tour with Nick Carter, Talevski continues to build on his success as a rising pop star.

At the age of 29, Talevski has already accomplished more than some artists twice his age. Millions of people have seen him sing on YouTube. Heʼs been signed to a major record label. Groomed for stardom alongside Justin Bieber. Toured with Backstreet Boys. Worked in the studio with will.i.am. Written songs for Shawn Desman, Danny Fernandes, Keshia Chante and others. And now, with Guilty as Sin, his debut single for eOne Music Canada, heʼs poised to take his rightful place as Canadaʼs next musical sensation. And it all began with a click.

“It was in 2007,” Talevski recalls. “I was just searching YouTube for Justin Timberlake’s video for What Goes Around Comes Around. I saw a couple of other people posting covers of the song — and had millions of views. It was like a lightbulb went on over my head. I posted a 47-second clip of myself singing the chorus, and when I woke up the next day I had about 500 views.”

Soon, it got even more surreal. A year to the day of his first posting as danjt87 — and after YouTube posted his first video of an original song on its main page — Talevski was whisked to Hollywood, where he became the first male artist signed to a major-label record deal via the Internet. Overnight, he was thrown into the star-maker machinery. “It was like going to college for an artist.”

Even so, Talevski wasn’t satisfied. The commercial pop he recorded wasn’t his style; the melodies weren’t his own; the words weren’t his thoughts. He felt no connection to his music, had no control over his career. So he took control. He came back to Toronto and began finding his sound. Honing his craft. Putting everything he’d learned into practice.

He wrote songs and recorded with a whoʼs who of Canadian acts. He crossed the country opening for Backstreet Boys. He found the right songwriters and producers — identical twins RyanDan (formerly of B44, and more recently, Shania Twainʼs Vegas show) and Alex “Pilzbury” Vujic. The first fruit of their labours was the R&B-influenced Guilty as Sin. As its title tells you, this isnʼt your little sisterʼs pop music — though it might appeal to her big sister.

In 2015, MUCH began a new segment of showcasing online talent from established and emerging video loggers that would be featured on their website. Talevski went on to be one of the first digital creators for MUCH hosting a segment of weekly video logs and behind the scenes footage of his music. The following year, Dan received a Pop Artist of the Year nomination at the 16th Annual Indie Awards and Best New Solo Artist: CHR nomination at the Canadian Radio Music Awards during Canadian Music Week. Talevski was also nominated for an iHeartRadio MMVA for Best New Canadian Artist for Knock Me Off My Feet.
