STOCK EXCHANGE MIXTAPE SET FOR RELEASE NOVEMBER 12

THIRTEEN WINS THE 2021 PRISM PRIZE

PERFORMING AT OSHEAGA GET TOGETHER IN MONTREAL, OTTAWA'S CRANIUM FESTIVAL
AND DEBUT AT FOCUS WALES IN OCTOBER

Toronto, ON – September 10, 2021 – The summer is winding down but Haviah Mighty is continuing to level up. Today, the multiple award-winning Toronto-based artist delivers elements of her A-game on Tesla. Produced by Haviah Mighty and Young Dreadz, the celebratory and reflective track is layered by ominous beats, synth-driven melodies, and hard bars. Tesla will be featured on her forthcoming Stock Exchange mixtape, out November 12 on Mighty Gang Inc. Listen to the song here.

Tesla arrives with a video game-inspired visual. Directed by Jesse Bryan of Die Fire Films, with Production Company, Cultiv8 (who were at the helm for Haviah’s epic Obeah), watch Haviah as she drives through Toronto in the iconic whip as the winner of her own race along the way here with the visualizer by BlackPowerBarbie here

The song was initially inspired by Haviah’s first US mini tour just before the pandemic set in, writing the first lyrics while fueled by Los Angeles sunshine, striving for more.

Haviah says: “Being fresh off the high from freestyling on Sway in the Morning just a few days earlier, to performing in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles…all of this solidified something in my mind - the idea that I could really achieve this. The only thing I have to do is continue to work  hard. One thing I've always worried about is being stagnant andonly being recognized for the last thing that I've done, so maintaining this work ethic has to be a focal point for me.”

“While much of this song talks about the things that I feel I’m on my way to achieving, some of which being those nice-to-have material things - for me, these things are symbolic of something more abstract - a lifestyle that I couldn't fathomprior.”

Haviah's forthcoming Stock Exchange mixtape is an international endeavour that will include collaborations with  multiple Latin GRAMMY winning Barcelona-based artist, Mala Rodríguez (Flamenco), UK artist, Yizzy (Protest), US artists Jalen Santoy (Way Too Fast) and Old Man Saxon (Antisocial), to  JUNO Award-winning rapper, TOBi (Good On My Own Tonight),  Toronto DJ and Producer Grandtheft (Avocado), and more. The title refers to a reckoning Haviah had internally over the last year, connecting with how artists are forced to validate their value based on random data (followers, subscribers) and losing a part of the authentic human-to-human universal experience of art.

This summer, Haviah made her return to the road and stage, performing festivals across Canada. In August she rocked with the Arkells, supporting them for their Long Weekend shows at Budweiser Stage. In addition, she performed a set at CityView Drive-In alongside Shad and Skratch Bastid, with shows at Riverfest Elora’s Wish You Were Here festival, RIVER & SKY Music/Camping Festival in Field, ON, Le Festif! De Baie-Saint-Paul in Quebec and George Street Festival in St. John's, Newfoundland.

About Haviah Mighty
Haviah Mighty didn’t need to change her birth name when she decided to dedicate her career to music. Mighty could not better describe Haviah’s craft of provocative challenges and uncompromising truths.

Based out of Toronto, Haviah has spent a lifetime developing her skills as a songwriter, vocalist, producer, and performer culminating in a style of profound introspection and incisive socio-political critique. Her dynamic combinations of rap, song, and instrumental, transition seamlessly from hip-hop to soul to afrobeats with a meticulous flow and cadence that transcends any traditional expectation of genre. 2019 saw Haviah earn break-out success with her album, 13th Floor, garnering overwhelming praise from publications such as Pitchfork and Billboard, and making her the first hip-hop artist and the first Black woman to win the Polaris Music Prize, celebrating the “best Canadian album of the year”.

In 2020, the recognition spread internationally. Haviah made an acclaimed appearance on Sway in the Morning, impressing with a performance of immaculate flow and fierce lyricism, “showing you something you NEED to be looking at.” Likewise, in the UK, BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders recognized Haviah as “one of the most exciting new rappers out there.”

2021 might have seen Haviah’s momentum stalled by a certain global pandemic…But for Haviah, attrition is met with defiance, and hardship with inspiration. She describes the enforced solitude of lockdown as not an obstacle, but “a window of immense opportunity” to develop the art that has always been a realization of deep contemplation and self-examination. Haviah pushes forward continuing to carve out spaces that boldly defy gendered expectations for women in hip-hop.

Stay locked in for new projects to challenge, move, and entertain, coming your way soon. Unyielding and irresistible - Haviah Mighty will be heard.
