Toronto, ON – May 29, 2017 – In celebration of Canada 150, a new music festival will be coming to Ontario! The Greenbridge Celtic Folk Fest will bring Cape Breton and Irish roots into the spotlight on August 25th and 26th. Organized by Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, the festival aims to be an authentic event, blending cultural experiences from Cape Breton and Ireland, as well as showcasing local fares and attractions to guests of all ages. The festival is part of the Canada 150 Passport program, and tickets can be purchased here.

After years of performing at festivals around the world, Leahy and MacMaster want to bring an event to Canada that will truly celebrate their musical culture, specifically from their Cape Breton and Irish backgrounds.

“Roots music feeds the soul,” comments MacMaster. “For me, coming from Cape Breton and seeing how plentiful it is there, I want that for this area and feel compelled to bring it to the people here. What an awesome weekend of talent and culture we will have, hand-picked by Donnell and myself from our many musical friends!”

The Greenbridge Celtic Folk Fest will be a fun-filled, immersive event, where attendees can use the festival as the cornerstone of their summer vacation. With numerous camp-grounds available nearby, festivalgoers will have the opportunity to turn the weekend into a family getaway. Local campground information can be found here. In addition to the musical performances, the festival will include an educational aspect, with workshops geared towards teaching children, and adults alike, about fiddling, cultural practices, and other exciting lessons that will be run by MacMaster, Donnell, and other performing acts from Cape Breton, Ireland, and across Canada.

The festival will feature performances by Natalie MacMaster, Donnell Leahy, Rhonda Vincent, Dervish, The Double Cuts, Next Generation Leahy, Evans & Doherty, Natalie MacMaster’s Cape Breton Jam Band, and David Rankin And The Gaelic College, with more to be announced soon.

Stay tuned for more announcements about the festival and get ready to celebrate Canada’s Celtic roots this summer!
