NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2020 WESTERN CANADIAN MUSIC AWARDS

Toronto, ON – June 23, 2020 – Today, the Western Canadian Music Alliance is honoured to announce the outstanding artists and music industry professionals that have been nominated for 2020 Western Canadian Music Awards. The full list of nominees can be found below, with the winners in both the artistic and industry categories to be revealed on September 25 during a special livestreamed event.
“I am excited to be announcing and celebrating these incredible artists and industry nominees for the 2020 Western Canadian Music Awards,” says Robyn Stewart, Executive Director, Western Canadian Music Alliance. “This year has been and continues to be tough for our industry, but also has highlighted the importance of music in the mental wellness, celebration and day-to-day joy of our country, especially in times of struggle. I am thrilled now more than ever to shine a light on these talented artists and industry who have made an incredible impact on the industry in the past year.”
Now in their 18th year, the Western Canadian Music Awards annually honour and celebrate the best industry and artistic talent coming out of western Canada. This year once again saw representation from all seven Member Associations, with numerous artists and industry members earning multiple nominations, including four nods to the National Music Centre, three nominations each for Nuela Charles, William Prince, and the West End Cultural Centre, and a whopping 15 acts with double nominations.
Voting is now open to members of all western Provincial and Territorial Music Industry Associations. All members will be sent an email regarding login information to vote (beginning today – Tuesday, June 23). If any members do not receive an email, please contact their Music Association. Voting will conclude at midnight, Pacific Time, on Monday, July 6.
Details on the format of the 2020 BreakOut West events will be announced in the coming weeks.

About Western Canadian Music Alliance
The Western Canadian Music Alliance is a pan western organization created by the Music Industry Associations (MIA’s) of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, The Northwest Territories, the Yukon Territory, to promote and celebrate western Canadian music. WCMA, with the financial support of each provincial and territorial government partner, FACTOR, the Government of Canada and of Canada's private radio broadcasters, WCMA annually hosts their core artist and industry development event, BreakOut West. The event is held in a different western Canadian city on a rotational basis and is the prime music industry event in western Canada. WCMA’s head office is in Winnipeg. We recognize the ancestral lands, from Treaty One Territory, the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
