TRACK APPEARS ON SOPHOMORE ALBUM
STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW – OUT NOW

“A beautifully crafted electronic pop record with compelling rhythms, layers of piano and synthesizers and dreamy vocals that wash over you wave after wave, Stronger Than You Know is one of those records you just leave on replay. – The Guardian

Toronto, ON – June 26, 2020 – Following the celebrated release of her sophomore record, Stronger Than You Know, Rachel Beck returns with the captivating visual accompaniment to her latest single, Dancin’. Created with acclaimed filmmaker and climate justice warrior, Millefiore Clarkes, the video juxtaposes images of dancing, colour and stunning natural beauty, with those of destruction, in a powerful way. Have a look here.

On the inspiration for Dancin’, Beck explains: “After a show in Fredericton one night, I had a long conversation with the presenter and his wife about the climate crisis. He told me the legend of the Roman emperor Nero – how he played his lyre on the roof of his palace as Rome burned to the ground around him. This resonated deeply with me. Sometimes it feels like we value comfort, convenience, and consumerism over climate action. We hear the cries for change, but we just turn up the music and keep dancin' while the earth burns around us. As a parent, I feel the weight of this. I want to do better.”

She continues, We wanted to clearly convey the climate action message within the song, without being too ‘gloom and doom’. We shot the video in less than an hour, but Mille truly tells the story with her brilliant editing.”

Produced by Daniel Ledwell at Echo Lake in Nova Scotia, Stronger Than You Know is sonically decorated amidst compelling electronic rhythms and dreamy synth layers. Beck’s vocals float across the vivid, harmony-laden, ethereal soundscape for which she has become known.

The record follows Beck’s self-titled debut, which garnered multiple award nominations and wins, including a SOCAN #1 Award for lead single Reckless Heart after it topped the CBC Music Top 20 Chart. In 2019, Beck took home two Music PEI Awards (Pop Recording of the Year, New Artist of the Year) and earned two ECMA nominations (Pop Recording of the Year, Rising Star Recording of the Year). Tour highlights include performing for Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, appearing twice at the legendary Stan Rogers Folk Festival, opening the 2019 ECMA Gala Awards Show, and playing beautiful festivals and stages across Canada, from the Rogue Folk Club in Vancouver to the Imperial Theatre in Saint John.
