ANNOUNCES RUN UP RIVER ALBUM DUE OUT OCTOBER 29

Toronto, ON – August 13, 2021 – Montreal’s triple threat, Reno McCarthy, releases his latest single, Sundown, today. The track is an introspective yet uplifting alternative pop song with folk rock undertones, centred around infatuation and the push and pull decision to move on. Listen here and watch the visualizer here.

On Sundown, Reno says: “The first thing I came up with for this song was the groove. I was really into the offbeat snare thing in the verses, opening up into big steady choruses. Chords and melody came quickly after. This is the most vocally expressive track on the record, and the chorus melodies are really built for that. The progression is a bit surprising and kind of hits you in a bunch of different ways emotionally.”

The textured and moody Sundown was produced by Reno, along with Arthur Bourdon-Durocher and recorded between Studio Balustrade and Village Studio in Montreal. The lyrics touch on infatuation and obsession, with the track subtly swaying before culminating in an emotional and heartfelt cry.

Sundown will be featured on the singer-songwriter-producer’s forthcoming album, Run Up River, due October 29, 2021 via Balustrade.

“It’s more gritty and there’s a sense of darkness,“ Reno says of the new project. “There’s a general sense of tension and release throughout Run Up River. Lyrically, the record is a carefully crafted yet unfiltered take on themes like insecurity, frustration and solace. Most songs are dealing with love and lust but tend to focus more on the flip side of these usually positively portrayed topics; things like obsession, fear of intimacy and anxiety. Although most of the songwriting process began before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I think it’s more relevant now than ever considering the exasperation, uncertainty and longing for liberation which plague us all.”

Reno’s previous single, Nightout, will also be featured on Run Up River. You can listen to the pulsating, funk inspired single here, and watch the accompanying neo-noir styled video here.

Stay tuned for more from Reno McCarthy!

About Reno McCarthy:
With the youthful sparkle of his 2019 debut album, Counterglow, Montreal alternative pop artist Reno McCarthy quickly gained recognition for his strong song writing and somewhat debonair quality as well as his band’s groove-heavy live shows.

Unexpected events led McCarthy to a surprising stopover in 2020. Following the loss of his father, the artist recorded a truly warm and personal EP. Moving, raw and of great profoundness, Angels Watching Us Dance, saw the artist at his most stripped-down and strikingly sensitive.
