“On an album full of galvanizing moments that hold truth to power, they provide centring moments that give clarity and space for the objectives of their affirmations to take root: reclamation of land and resources, collaboration in the place of appropriation, and the preservation of excellence and joy outside of and in opposition to settler-colonial visions.” - Exclaim! Magazine

Toronto, ON – August 3, 2021 – The Halluci Nation released their highly anticipated new album, One More Saturday Night, last Friday, July 30. Rich beyond words, the album’s 15 tracks pay homage to where it all began, Electric Pow Wow gatherings, which launched at Ottawa’s Babylon night club back in 2007.  Each song illuminates a piece of the path which together tells the story of this band’s journey.  Listen to the album here.

Today, the band released the video for It’s Over. The song features Chippewa Travellers, an Anishnaabeg family drum group originally from Chippewas of Nawash who have been long time collaborators of The Halluci Nation. Filmed by Combo Bravo, the video was shot in Toronto as well as Six Nations of The Grand River where 2oolman grew up. Watch closely, the video includes a cameo by Damian Abraham (Fucked Up).

On the video, The Halluci Nation says, “Our latest video, It’s Over, takes the viewer on a journey through the new history of The Halluci Nation. In this alternate reality, the lives and careers of 2oolman and Bear Witness are hidden behind shadows and conspiracies. Follow the rants and ravings of our interdimensional TV host, Damian Abraham, as he tries to unravel who or what The Halluci Nation actually is.”

Fresh off of their live performance at The Calgary Folk Festival, their first live performance since the pandemic, the band are now turning their attention to their online release show on Saturday, August 7.  It will be a one-hour green screen extravaganza, introducing the band’s new music, along with psychedelic graphics by director Sina Dolati. Tickets for the Noon Chorus are available, here. Trailers are here and here.

The virtual live show project was an opportunity to experiment with what an online streamed concert can achieve, and to bring The Halluci Nation’s music to life in an innovative way,” commented video director Sina Dolati. “I’m excited about how this project will bring together audiences around the world and how they will experience the event with friends and family at home or other settings.”

For members of their new Patreon community, the band will be offering a Q&A and premiere look at more video behind the scenes content. They are also exclusively releasing a pink vinyl on the platform, while a black vinyl and CDs are available in stores and on the band’s Shopify store.

The band has announced more tour dates, including several Canadian shows (full tour dates below).  More to come!

One More Saturday Night:
The album is a love letter to the Electric Pow Wow gatherings launched at Ottawa's Babylon nightclub in 2007.  It represents an imagined denouement to the biweekly Saturday-night parties that ended abruptly in 2017, without ever getting the proper send-off. One More Saturday Night thus pays homage to the parties’ energy and momentum that elevated The Halluci Nation to this pivotal point in their career of fully mastering their own music style while also moving beyond club music; or “mixing dance music with dance music,” Bear Witness succinctly puts it.

From hip-hop star, Yasiin Bey (AKA Mos Def), to the Indigenous Australian band, OKA, to the Wayuu-Colombian powerhouse, Lido Pimienta, the group has always sought out artists from around the world who would join The Halluci Nation family to form a like minded community as well as an international indigenous alliance. One More Saturday Night is no exception – with features as inspired and unpredictable as the music from Texas “electro-cumbia” star, El Dusty, Anishnaabeg drum group, Chippewa Travellers, New Zealand Māori artist, Rob Ruha, Inuk singer, Tanya Tagaq and round-dance/R&B singer, Antoine, among many others.
