FOR BEST INTERNATIONAL FLOW

PERFORMING AT THE DINAH SHORE FESTIVAL
IN PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA TODAY

TORONTO, ON – September 23, 2022 – Toronto-born, Brampton-based artist, DJ and producer, Haviah Mighty, has been having a Mighty time. She just rocked the stage at Toronto's inaugural Rolling Loud festival after an extensive national summer tour. In May, Haviah made history as her 2021 mixtape, Stock Exchange, won a 2022 Juno Award for Rap Album/EP of the Year. The journey continues as Haviah shares her first sample of new music today. Honey Bun is a bona fide banger highlighting self validation, personal integrity and the growth that comes from ending toxic patterns and co-dependent relationships. Heavy beats produced by Grammy-nominated, Bizness Boi (Flo Milli, Wale, Tink), and Derelle Rideout (Kodak Black, Kevin Gates) are layered in the folds of Honey Bun, sweetened with guest bars by her father, Mr. Mighty, who shares truths we can all use. Listen to the song here.

"The end of this relationship, for me, was the end of stability and certainty for a time. It broke my trust. It meant that everything I thought I knew, no longer was. It meant that my value system around building relationships had completely changed. Where I once sought authenticity in a new connection, after that hardship and pain, I found my desires were only surface. It sparked the first line in the song, 'and another one - thought you was the one, you just another one,' followed by, 'thought I wasn’t nothing, but I’m number one. I’m like Lauryn Hill, I’m just a younger one.'

I pivoted hard to self-validation, recognizing my co-dependency on this person only after being left behind. I began to rely heavily on having multiple beautiful partners, money, designer clothes, drugs and any other way to escape the hurt. Honey Bun is a toxic part of my journey, but mixed with the internal conflict of knowing better deep down. I reflect on parental advice, 'don’t need nothing but yourself, that’s on my mama/father,' and while I’m still crooning about needing ‘another one’ through the outro, my father can be heard discrediting the entire song with his take on what beauty really is. In his reflection, you’re reminded that just as your true purpose is found from going within, the true purpose of another is found within them. Overall, this song is a reminder that nothing…is surface deep."

Earlier this year, Haviah launched her successful initiative, Black Entrepreneur Giveaway. Haviah awarded 10 rising business owners $1,000 each to help them further expand and thrive. The initiative arrives in alignment with Stock Exchange and its messaging to value systems of both economic and creative forms. Following Haviah's 2019 Polaris Music Prize winning album, 13th Floor, Stock Exchange features an array of highly acclaimed singles and guests. This year, Haviah celebrated her ever-evolving and progressive career with numerous accolades and a monumental return to live shows - defying all odds around a time of change worldwide. Listen to Stock Exchange everywhere you enjoy music.

Haviah is making her mark on an international scale and was just nominated for a 2022 BET Award in the category of Best International Flow - learn more here. Haviah is currently in Los Angeles and opened for local artist, J. Stone, at the Echoplex last night. Today, she'll rock The Dinah Music Festival at Margaritaville in Palm Springs.

Stay tuned for more from Haviah Mighty this fall.

About Haviah Mighty
Haviah Mighty didn’t need to change her birth name when she decided to dedicate her career to music. Mighty could not better describe Haviah’s craft of provocative challenges and uncompromising truths.

Based out of Brampton via Toronto, Haviah has spent a lifetime developing her skills as a songwriter, vocalist, producer, and performer, culminating in a style of profound introspection and incisive socio-political critique. Her dynamic combinations ofrap, song, and instrumental transition seamlessly from hip-hop to soul to afrobeats with a meticulous flow and cadence that transcends any traditional expectation of genre.

2019 saw Haviah earn break-out success with her album, 13th Floor, making her the first hip-hop artist and the first Black woman to win the Polaris Music Prize, celebrating the “Best Canadian Album of the Year” - but Mighty didn’t stop there.

With her JUNO Award-winning mixtape, Stock Exchange (Nov. 2021), Haviah made history once again as the first woman to ever win within the Rap Album of the Year category. Recognition has spread internationally, garnering praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, GRM Daily, FADER, Hot New Hip Hop, and so many more.

From performance invitations by massive European tastemaker, COLORSxSTUDIOS, to BBC 1’s Jack Saunders proclaiming “I just cannot find anything as good as Haviah Mighty," to crushing the 5 Fingers of Death on the legendary show, Sway in the Morning - Haviah Mighty is unstoppable. Mighty pushes forward continuing to carve out spaces that boldly defy gendered expectations for women in hip- hop. Unyielding and irresistible – Haviah Mighty will be heard.
