SMS FOR LOCATION, VOL.5 DUE FALL 2022

Toronto, ON – June 3, 2022 – Today, Montreal’s JUNO Award-nominated, Moonshine Collective, shares their latest offering, Obomi Nga. The track highlights frequent collaborator, Brooklyn producer/DJ, Uproot Andy, and Kinshasa's MC Redbul with a feature from MC Azas. Composed and recorded between Kinshasa, Montreal and New York, Obomi Nga is an amapiano-flavoured tune grounded in its bassline, percussive rhythm and call-and-response lyrics in Lingala and French that is set for dance floors worldwide, be it your own, or those Moonshine is currently rocking on tour - listen to Obomi Ngaread the lyrics and find Moonshine in your city below.

Obomi Aga is Moonshine Collective's first preview of their forthcoming, SMS For Location Vol.5, set for release this fall. It follows their celebrated 2021 album, SMS For Location Vol. 4, nominated for a 2022 JUNO Award (Global Music Album of the Year). The project is a massive collection of songs recorded in studios from Montreal to Lisbon to Kinshasa. It features collaborations with Georgia Anne Muldrow, Sango, Florentino, Ase Manuel, and many others. Listen here.

Last summer  the group dropped a fantastic video for album highlight, Malembe, with a hybrid live performance video directed by Jessamine Fok (Paper Magazine, Clipped.TV, Toronto Short Film). Malembe marks the first collaboration between friends, Pierre Kwenders and Boddhi Satva, who craft a lithe melody that rapidly explodes with heavy bass and commanding vocals. Dropping MC RedBul’s energetic, booming voice into the mix alongside Kwenders’ lyrical resonance turns Malembe into a multi-layered musical conversation fit for pulsing dancefloors. Watch Malembe here.

From deep underground in Montreal to under the Congo sun, the Moonshine party returns with its Afro-futuristic, bass-heavy, electro-funk sound. A curatoration of Pan-African dance/electronic music, Moonshine’s latest SMS for Location album fuses levity and acumen, inventive electronic production with traditional instrumentation, all the while intensifying a collaboration between artists from around the world. SMS for Location Vol. 4 crosses genres and continents to follow the producers, DJs and MCs from Montreal’s legendary Moonshine parties to underground UK clubs, Parisian Afro-beat soirées to Kinshasa’s booming electronic scene. A month after its release, SMS for Location Vol 4 has drawn international praise from Rolling Stone, The FADER, Complex, Vice France, Exclaim!, Le Monde France, and many others.
