TORONTO, ON – August 18, 2022 – Summer ends on a high note as Small World Music (SWM) sings into the autumn season in vibrant fashion at the 2022 Small World Music Festival! Kicking off Friday, September 16 and running through Sunday, September 18 at Fort York Garrison Common in Toronto, the festival culminates the organization's celebration of 25 years of delivering high-quality, groundbreaking performances by artists both domestic and international, that resonate with a range of communities and culture lovers. The outdoor festival is free and accessible for all ages, featuring  a range of live music, food, arts and crafts and more. "For 25 years, Small World has been dedicated to ensuring that Toronto audiences experience all of the amazing music that makes our city move," says Small World Music Executive Director, Umair Jaffar. "That amazing music is the result of the diverse communities that have gathered here. I can’t think of a better way to wrap up a year of Small World anniversary celebrations, and one last summertime blast of fun, than with the party in the park that we’re planning.”

This year's international artists include La Chica, a Franco-Venezuelan multi-instrumentalist combining electro, pop, chanson, and influences of their Latin heritage; Argentina's Tanghetto, an award-winning ensemble blending futuristic Electronic elements with Tango influences, will get Toronto audiences moving; and one of Pakistan's best-loved Qawwali ensembles, Fareed Ayaz & Abu Muhammad Qawwaliwill be making a special Toronto appearance. 

Domestic highlights include an array of Toronto locals: Polaris Music Prize short-listers (2020), Pantayo, will deliver their electro-synth-pop rooted in southern Philippine Kulintang (gong ensemble) traditions; Moneka Arabic Jazz celebrates Afro-Arabic jazz from the Middle East and North Africa with signature flair; Toronto-based Bahia, Brazil native, JERmerges electronic, ska, rock, dub, Brazilian fusion and more; Cartagena, Colombia/Toronto group, Soukustek, combines traditional soukous, a style of dance music derived from Congolese rumba, with Colombian folklore; local collective, FabCollab, presents Women in Song: Summer Thunder, a collaboration celebrating women from across the musical spectrum. 

The Festival will also welcome a stellar list of Quebec artists: Funk Lion, a Montreal-based band fusing funk and psych-rock with their Haitian roots; Clerel shares his soulful tunes and sweet vocals; HAWA B showcases powerhouse vocals via soul, alt-rock, jazz, R’n’B and beyond; Joyce N'Sana will share her unique "Afrobluehop" sound, melding Afroblues and hip-hop into an infectious and captivating live experience. Shauit celebrates the traditional Innu music of his home with folk and reggae inflections.

A plethora of food, drink and merchandise will be available on site - the historic and beautiful Fort York's Garrison Common grounds. The open-air green space in the heart of Toronto will welcome artists and audiences alike to connect with the city's history, its present, and its future - through the power of music.
